Product designer focused oncomplex marketplaces

Exploring systems, strategy, and the invisible forces shaping product decisions through the lens of an empathic product designer

What I work on

Five problems I keep returning to.

  1. 01

    Complex marketplaces

Two-sided trust, cold starts, supply-side workflow, vertical vs. horizontal calls.

  2. 02

    Regulated industries

Designing with constraints, not around them. Fintech, healthcare, civic.

  3. 03

    Checkout & money flows

Disclosures, comprehension, friction as a feature, recovering abandoned intent.

  4. 04

    Consumer behavior

Hesitation as signal. Designing for the second decision, not just the first click.

  5. 05

    Product strategy

Sequencing, what to not build, decision memos that survive the next quarter.

How I work

I start with the constraint, not the screen. A good frame of the problem is worth a hundred pixels. Most of what I do is writing — memos, decision logs, the document that gets four functions to agree on what we are and aren't shipping.

Strategy first

I want to be in the room when scope is set, not after. Most design problems are budget problems wearing a costume.

Systems, not screens

I think in flows, states, policy, and edge cases. Mockups come last and they come quickly.

Tradeoffs in writing

If a decision can't survive a paragraph, it won't survive the quarter. I write them down.

"Marianne is the first designer I've worked with who treats a legal review as a design constraint instead of a wall. The work is sharper for it."
